Steve Vai est un guitariste et chanteur de rock américain né le 6 juin 1960, considéré comme un guitar hero.

Steve Vai démarre sa carrière à 19 ans en tant que musicien dans le groupe de Frank Zappa. En 1984, il enregistre son premier album solo (Flex-Able). Il rejoint ensuite le groupe Alcatrazz où il remplace le guitariste Yngwie Malmsteen le temps d'un album et d'une tournée. De 1985 à 1989, il joue aux côtés de David Lee Roth, l'ex-chanteur de Van Halen, avec lequel il enregistre deux albums, Eat 'Em and Smile (1986) et Skyscraper (1988). Il quitte David Lee Roth pour enregistrer son second album solo Passion and Warfare, qui remporte un grand succès et lance sa carrière solo. Il poursuit avec la publication de Sex & Religion en 1993, Alien Love Secrets en 1995, Fire Garden en 1996 et The Ultra Zone en 1999.

Avec Joe Satriani, qui fut son professeur de guitare, il entame à partir de 1996 une série de tournées mondiales dans lesquelles ils jouent aux côtés d'autres grands guitaristes comme Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Brian May ou encore Patrick Rondat.

Parmi de nombreuses récompenses, le Berklee College of Music lui a décerné en 2000 le titre de docteur honoris causa en musique.

Steven Siro Vai (born June 6, 1960) is an American guitarist, songwriter, singer, and producer who has sold over 15 million albums. After starting his career as a music transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, he recorded and toured in Zappa's band from 1980 to 1982. He began a solo career in 1983, and has released eight solo albums and won three Grammy Awards.

Vai has recorded and toured with Public Image Ltd., Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake. He has been a regular touring member of the G3 Concert Tour, which began in 1995. In 1999, he started his own record label, Favored Nations, intending to showcase "artists that have attained the highest performance level on their chosen instruments".
